We were looking forward to it. At the end of September 2022, the old mountain road was renovated. A project in which we again met and spoke to many lovely people from the county council. We followed the whole job from start to finish, even up to our front door.

Old layers were scraped away; branches were pruned. Then the drainage of all the water was thoroughly tackled: large pipes under the road, new canals next to the road so that the water flows again where it used to seep and flow and wear away the old tarmac layers.

Layer after layer, the new road was built, large machines filling the narrow roads, and we often stood and watched in admiration. You have to dare to do it on a sloping slope.

The last Saturday, the new tarmac layer was laid from top to bottom during a long day.

And after weeks of activity and machines, it became quiet again on the mountain.

The road drives wonderfully. It remains a boreen road, sometimes steep, with no street light, but you still have no traffic and can enjoy the view and nature around you while driving up at your own pace.

We are curious how our guests will experience this new road in 2023,
probably like it’s always been that way.
